Our Next Meeting
When: Thursday, January 8, 2008
Place: CityPlace One Auditorium Directions
Title: "Town Hall" meeting
Presented By: all of us!
About the Presentation:

This will be our first ever "Town Hall" meeting. Everyone in attendance will discuss several topics. Possible topics include:

  • Which JVM-based languages other than Java are you using and why?
  • What web frameworks are you using and why?
  • What persistence mechanisms/frameworks are you using and why?
  • Is anybody using AOP anymore or has that idea started to fade?
  • Is anybody investigating functional languages? If so, which ones and why?
  • Which features would you most like to see added in Java 7 and why?
  • Is Maven going to replace Ant as the most popular tool for building Java projects?
  • What topics would like to see presented at the JUG?
  • What is the value of agile development practices?
  • Why do applications need a container?

We will use the "three vote honor system" for selecting the topics to be discussed. At the beginning of the meeting, we will go through a list of prospective topics. Every person in attendance gets to vote 3 times (possibly voting zero, one, or two times for any given topic). People will be on their honor to not vote more than 3 times and we will discuss the topics as ranked by votes.

About the Presenter:

This will be a group discussion. We all have many years of experience!
